For the love of Printavo...Auto-save (or Save Alert) please!!!

The worst feeling in the world is to feel so accomplished after finishing a complicated invoice only to accidentally hit the wrong button and have the whole thing deleted only because you forgot or failed to save all your work! Please for the love of Printavo and my job create some kind of an Auto Save! : )

This still isn't complete... why is it marked as complete?

In order to prevent our users from accidentally deleting their progress on an Order, we introduced a pop-up that will prompt users to Save or Cancel changes when clicking away from any Quote/Invoice with unsaved changes.
- If any changes are made to a Quote or Invoice, and a user clicks on another link within Printavo, then a pop-up will appear prompting them to either Save their changes, Discard their changes, or Cancel the action. Here is a video of the prompt in action: https://share.getcloudapp.com/eDuEzRov
- Additionally, in order to maintain consistency with the pop-up's "Discard changes" option, we have added a new "Cancel changes" button to the bottom-left of the Order Edit page. This button allows users to Cancel any changes made to an Order and will exit the Edit page.

Abby McDowell: Awesome work! Send my thanks to the whole team.

Abby McDowell: This should pop up every few minutes. Otherwise it's not really automatic, is it?

Can we PLEASE still utilize the auto-save aspect of this 2019 suggestion and not just a 'You're about to leave...' pop-up.
I have had multiple experiences where "Bruce" needs to take the website down and work on something, so my work is still lost as it went down while I unknowingly continued to create the invoice.
Having a true auto-save (save every 20-30 seconds) may assist in salvaging some of the labor spent on building an invoice instead of losing ALL of the labor.

Eloy Cano - Customer Service: AGREED this needs to be split into a separate Idea or something and not lose the votes. Pretty sure most people here are hoping for auto save.

Eloy Cano - Customer Service: Hey there!
Unfortunately a true auto-save is not plausible for us to implement at this time. The Product team spent a lot of time thinking through this, and I'm happy to provide an explanation behind why we believe a Save Alert provides a much better user experience than an auto-save:
1- The amount of "backend" requests would increase tenfold and could potentially cause extensive load times for all users within Printavo.
2- Currently, a new Quote is not created until a user elects to Save the Quote. Some users create a "temporary" quote for one reason or another (i.e. testing a feature, looking at pricing, etc). If we implemented auto-save, every time "+ Quote" is clicked, the Quote would save and you may now have a list of accidental quotes that you'd need to delete.
3- As some users mentioned in this thread, auto-save could potentially save incorrect data. If user A is in the middle of editing an Invoice (i.e. Shipping info, production notes, imprints, etc), User B could simultaneously be reading and acting upon incomplete data that isn't truly ready. Essentially, there is not a good way for users throughout a shop to know when the Invoice is in a "complete" state with auto-save at play.
On another note- any downtime we plan is communicated with users ahead of time with emails and in-app messaging. If your app is ever "down" outside of planned downtime- please reach out to Support immediately as that should not be happening.
Thank you for your feedback though, we always want to hear our users out, and hope you can understand why we chose this path forward!

Abby McDowell: Just some thoughts here.
- The capacity issue sounds like a server problem for Printavo to work on. We have had too much downtime recently so it needs to be improved anyway.
- Some ideas for this: Only auto-save when a user has it enabled. Only auto-save after the first save is made.
- Some ideas for this: Implement collision detection like my other cloud apps have. Implement version control so we can roll back to each save of the invoice. This would be great for auditing as others have posted Ideas for.
So I still agree with Abby that auto-save should not be ditched. Yet somehow, YoPrint pulls it off.

planned
A Save Alert prompt feature has been prioritized & planned to be released within the next few weeks. This alert will display if you navigate away from the Quote or Invoice with any unsaved changes.
Here is a sneak peek of the preliminary designs:

Abby McDowell: Better Idea than an auto save. We adjust things on the fly for customers and then back out without changing anything.
C
Cory @ Floodway
Bill Richardson: Auto-save could be a toggle for people like you, which are probably far and few between.
C
Cory @ Floodway
Bill Richardson: There could also be a 'cancel' button to revert the changes. There should already be a cancel button now, because when we adjust things on the fly we gotta remember to refresh/exit the page without saving.

Auto-Save Quotes

I spent about a half hour working up a quote only to accidentally hit the back button...and POOF, it's all gone. What a terrible feeling that really sets the mood for the rest of the day. Please make a feature that if someone is editing a quote, and they leave the page without hitting "SAVE" at the bottom of the page, that it auto-saves to the quotes section. That way we can go back and edit and be happy, instead of having to start completely over and be angry.

Sometimes I use the back button when I want to undo something I have done. If we add an auto save, I would like an undo button as well.
C
Cory @ Floodway
Karissa Ireland: Version control would be awesome. My wordpress site has it... I can just go back to an old version of a page.

Monica Corbin
agreed - save it to a generic name and we can then find it

Agreed - it would be a nice feature. While we all try to hit save and continue while working on quotes - it happens to the best us. :-)

It happened to me many times before so I can relate.
It will be awesome to have an auto-save feature.
